Hare Krishna - "Shit happens, rama rama."

See, most of my shit is all happy, you know, guy meets girl, guy and girl fall in love, happy ending. Well, sorry to shock you this time. See, My Last Breath was trying to say that love beats all odds, even death, well, how about a little brokenheartedness for ya? Betcha didn't think I could write this, did ya?

Ceres drove down the night streets, listening to her music, and enjoying the cool late spring breeze that blew into her car windows. It had just gotten past dusk and therefore still early. She didn't have anything to do the next day, so she could afford to stay up late. Hmm... what to do... she thought, as she turned the steering wheel to get upon another street. The traffic light just ahead of her turned red, so while she waited for it to turn green again, she just happened to look at the street signs. Hey, Alex doesn't live too far from here, and I don't think he'd mind if I dropped in. With her mind now settled on where she was going, she started on her way to Alex's house.

Upon arriving, Ceres hummed the tune of the song that she had just been listening to on the radio, which just happened to be 'Be Without You' by Mary J. Blige. She looked to see if his car was there, and it was, so she turned hers off and stepped out of it. She tucked back a few strands of her shoulder length red-orange hair behind her ear as she walked up to the door and tried the doorknob. Since Alex usually left the door unlocked when he was at home, Ceres was a bit puzzled to find it locked. Maybe he's asleep, she thought while shrugging it off, pulling out her copy of the front key, and going inside.

Ceres walked through the apartment quietly, not wanting to wake Alex right off the bat if he was indeed asleep. She'd save that for later, when she ran and tackled him awake for revenge upon the last time he woke her up from her short nap. When she reached his bedroom, she opened the door carefully, so as to not cause it to creak any. After the door had opened enough for her to see inside, she had to pause to collect herself, and not scream.

Alex was there, and he was asleep. However, there was another woman by his side. He must have sensed Ceres's presence in his sleep, for he slowly opened his eyes and looked at her. He didn't even appear to be shocked, he simply looked at her impassively with his emerald green eyes while shaking the other woman awake. She, upon seeing Ceres, jumped out of the bed, and got the hell out of there as fast as she could.

Meanwhile, Ceres had bowed her head slightly and placed her thumb and index finger on the ridge of her nose, also taking slow and deep breaths to calm herself. Needless to say, it didn't work. "Alex, what the hell?" she asked, well, demanded, as she lifted her scarlet eyes to meet his emerald ones. "I thought..." she began, then stopped.

"Thought what?" Alex asked, not moving from his place in his bed. "That we were in love?" He smiled coldly at her, and ran a hand through his dark brown, nearly black hair, which was damp with sweat, pushing it up off of his forehead. "Don't you know, Ceres? No guy ever is in love."

Ceres stared at him speechlessly, the feeling of oncoming tears coming to her. "No," she lied. "I was going to say that I thought that you were a better guy than that, that you would at least break up with me first before going to sleep with whoever. Obviously, I was wrong." She turned and stepped out of the room, not knowing where the other woman went, and not caring. Ceres didn't want to leave, she wanted to stay, but she didn't want him to see that he was right, that was what she thought, and that she would actually cry over him. The tears were getting closer, she had to move quickly.

"Ceres," she heard as she reached the door. She turned her head in the direction of Alex's voice, wondering what it was that he wanted. "I thought you might want this," Alex said, now standing at the door of his bedroom, holding something in his hand. Upon closer inspection, Ceres could see that it was a glass photo frame that she had given him for Valentine's Day. It had a picture of them in it, and a poem inscribed upon it. He held it out as if he wanted her to take it, but when she turned her entire body in his direction, as if she was going to go get it from him, he opened his hand and let it fall to the floor. It shattered upon impact. "Oops, it slipped," was all he said before he went back into his room, laughing, and shut the door behind him.

As Ceres looked at the shattered glass, she wanted to pick up the largest and sharpest piece, open his door, and stab him until she couldn't anymore. Like the glass, the dam that was holding back her tears, and her heart broke as well.

Only one thought kept recurring in her mind:

"No guy is ever in love..."

You know, I would explain the meaning of this, but guess what? I don't feel like it. If I don't write it up, oh well, I might put it up later, but I'm not promising anything. I'm way too... ugh... to finish talking about it right now. Hopefully, I'll be able to get some sleep after this.
